GLORIA SOPHIA ALMONTE
Gloria Sophia Almonte is entering in the pageant called Miss Latina USA, it's held in Barcelo Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Girls from all over the United States that are of Latin decent will compete for the USA title to represent at the Miss Latina International pageant. Gloria has previously competed in Miss Teen USA 2001 representing New York and Miss USA 2007 representing New York. The Miss Latina USA pageant is running from May 25th - 30th. You can watch the pageant online here: http://www.xtremovision.com/
What did you dream of being when you were a kid?
I always dreamt of being famous. I love watching tv. At the age of 2 my mother told me I started banging on the tv set saying "me do that, me do that" She knew it was my way of telling her I wanted to do that, meaning I wanted to be acting. She waited until I was old enough to ask her to enroll me in classes. I've attended performing arts school in which I majored in acting since the age of 5.
What are you doing now in your life?
I'm currently working part time as a hostess at a restaurant in NYC while attending acting classes, auditions and participating in fashion shows. I'm also a part of a non profit organization called Queen For A Day where I visit sick girls in hospitals and spend time with them. More info on this can be found on www.qfad.org
What has been the best advice given to you to about surviving the pagent industry?
To always be myself, expect and the unexpected and enjoy every moment and make friends. We all want to win but at the end of the competition we all know there is only 1 winner. The title and crown lasts just 1 year but the friendship lasts a lifetime. Some of my best friends are girls I've met nearly 10 years ago at my first pageant (Miss Teen USA 2001) Ashley Hanson, Miss Iowa Teen USA from that year is my current hair and make-up artist. She has even traveled all the way to Puerto Rico when I lived out there in 2008 and was filming a reality tv show.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
From my mother. As a single parent she sacrificed everything and anything to give me what I wanted and have me experience everything she wasn't able to. She never forced me to do the things I do, she just always supported me and made sure that whatever I did, I did 110%
Describe your style to us?
My style in clothing? I'm a jeans and t-shirt girl for sure. At work, I have to be in a dress and heels. To club it up or a night out with the girls I'm in heels, tights, a nice top, but most of the time skinny jeans and a jacket. Whatever I'm wearing the shoes and top are always, always BLACK!
Describe your clothing outfit when you go out?
Jeans, cons/vans, a band t-shirt or t-shirt with a funny saying, my current favorite is one that says "Dear Boys, I hate you all, Love Me :)" It really does depend on where I'm going, the occasion and who I'm with.
What item of clothing would you like to see brought back?
This is a tough one. I'm not one to follow trends or want to see some of them come back.
Who is a person that has been an inspiration to you?
I have many different people who inspire me for many different reasons. Of course my mother for always being there for me and letting me know that in order to achieve success I not only have to work hard but stay positive and believe that I will. Rita Moreno, my idol. She's the only artist and also a Puerto Rican woman to have won every major award possible. The Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy. Christina Aguilera for always re-inventing herself and not being afraid to speak her mind. She once said "Everyone has their own opinion of what a role model should be, and if we all try to live up to it, we would fail" I would never want someone to look at me and blame me for their childs mistakes or bad behavior because of what I wear, what I said or did. It's not my job to raise your kids. I just want people to look at me and enjoy what I do, be entertained and be inspired to just go out and pursue their dreams as well.
Who is the ultimate Spader to you?
Right now, I definitely have to say those boys of 2AM Club. I've never met such talented, hard working, driven, down to earth, fun guys. They walk into a room or perform on stage, you just can't take your eyes off them. They don't need to demand attention, their charisma is just something that draws people to them. Thier on their grind everyday to be better at everything.

SHAPESHIFTER INTERVIEW
Shapeshifter are loved the world over for their unique and unprecedented merging of human energy and electronic influence and their explosive and exceptional live show. Known for their extensive list of accolades and awards, their platinum selling albums and regular news of sold-out shows across NZ, Australia, Europe and UK, Shapeshifter are currently preparing for the Australian release of their new album, The System Is A Vampire. We got a chance to chat with Nick Robinson from the group.
What has been the best advice given to you to about surviving the entertainment industry?
Just to never quit, and to do it for the love of it. If you keep working at it and doing it for the love then you're winning already.
Where do you get your fashion inspiration from?
Probably just from watching people, and tv. There's good fashion tips on TV, shows like Jersey Shore - no not really. I like different/subtle fashion. Everyone everywhere in the world dress like hollywood stars or Rockstars - its boring. Clothes and Sunglasses are just so cheap and readily available these days. When i see someone who looks casual and comfortable - thats when i stop and take notice.
Describe your style to us?
Emo hippie Surfer/ street Skater on holiday in Fiji in the rainy season.
Describe your outfit when you go out?
Dr Denim Mauser jeans - skinny/Rinsed blue, Insight Death Switch T-Shirt, piece of my baby's pounamu around my neck, Pair of Adio Radley's on my feet with odd socks, Electric Crossover Sunglasses in my pocket for the morning, and a Lacoste black V-neck jumper for warmth.
What item of clothing would you like to see brought back?
Definately the classic 80's stubbies... 80's NRL stubbies to be precise
Who is a person that has been an inspiration to you?
The Guy who goes down to Latimer Square (in christchurch) every weekend and spends $200 of his own money and puts on a massive free Kai for all the homeless and hungry... its all about giving with no taking necessary, thats what its all about - nice guy.
Who is the ultimate Spader to you?
It would have to be my Dad, always cool calm and collected, never blows his top- quietly does his thing..no dramas. I want to be like that.

What did you dream of being when you were a kid?
I had a stage of wanting to be all the normal things kids want to be, pilot, police man, gangster, doctor, porn star... but i really rated Mark Knophler so from about 12 years old i was pretty keen to be in a band
What are you doing now in your life?
I am a Musician, producer and a dad.. My skills are washing baby clothes, and spending copious amounts of money on old vinyl and various collectable home audio systems.

ELK INTERVIEW
One artist you should all be getting familiar with is Canberra stencil artist ELK. For those who have walked into Knightsbridge time and time again admiring the artwork at the entrance of the club and around the bar, well that's the magic work of ELK. His craft is not only being seen in Canberra but all over Australia and parts of the world! Keep an eye out for his up coming exhibitions.
What did you dream of being when you were a kid?
I actually always wanted to be an artist, I never thought it would happen, but here we are. That or a comedian, I don't want to be a comedian anymore.
What are you doing now in your life?
Right now I'm working on my first solo show, it opens at the Front gallery in canberra on the 9th of July, its called "how you like me now, bitch?" I'm also starting to put some work together for a show in Los Angeles in August at the Crewest Gallery. Basically in my life right now I'm just working really hard, you work hard to get where you want to be, and you work twice as hard to stay there, but I love what I'm doing, so its not work really.
What has been the best advice given to you to about surviving the art industry?
Work hard, be nice to people. I believe in karma, nothing goes unrewarded.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I like to find beauty in things that aren't particularly beautiful, taking something that no one wants to look at and turning it into something that people can't look away from, like a junkie or an abandoned building. I get inspired by challenging myself, trying to make each piece better than the last.
Describe your style to us?
Technically progressive, I make photo-realistic stencil art.
Describe your clothing outfit when you go out?
I don't stray far from hoodies and cargos, so comfortable in these two. Etnies and beanie. Scarf if its cold.
What item of clothing would you like to see brought back?
Hypercolour, hands down, hypercolour (or kuta lines)
Who is a person that has been an inspiration to you?
I can't remember his name, but there's this australian guy living in cambodia, who has dedicated his life to defusing land mines left over from the cambodian war in the 70's. I think he used to be in the australian army or something. Here's a guy that is selflessly using his life to make the world a better place for thousands of other people. True happiness doesn't come with what you have, it comes with what you give away. I try to remember this. I don't draw inspiration from artists or rockstars or sporting "heroes" etc, I'm inspired by people that actually contribute.
Who is the ultimate Spader to you?
I like Ben Frost, he's an australian artist. I don't look up to many people, but this guy is pretty awesome, nice guy too.

ROB SWIFT INTERVIEW
DJ Rob Swift is a master of the turntables, regarded as one of the best to ever get behind the wheels of steel, he is highly respected for his beat juggling skills. Rob has toured all over the world rocking shows and spreading the art of hip hop. He recently released an album called "The Architect" which is a mixture of hip hop and classical music. To see the master in work catch him this Friday night in Canberra at Transit Bar in the city!
What did you dream of being when you were a kid?
As a child, I dreamed of being a professional football player. I've always loved the sport. I played every chance I could get. But my focus shifted from football to the dedication of turntable mastery by the time I entered High School. To this day, I still keep up with the sport though. During football season, I've been known to schedule tour dates around key games, lol.
What are you doing now in your life?
I've been traveling the world, exposing the art of DJing to a new generation of music lovers and club goers. It's been a great experience. I think it's safe to say I've spent at least half of my time on the road since January. I've been on a promotional blitz to support my most recent album The Architect and from the looks of it, there's no slowing down as we approach the summer.
What has been the best advice given to you to about surviving the entertainment industry?
Never get comfortable. So many times, artist reach a certain level of success and begin to slack. They stop practicing hard enough or they fail to adapt to the way their art progresses. This goes for all types of entertainers. Not just DJing. This is why I work so hard to reinvent my style, my image and my music!
Where do you get your fashion inspiration from?
I'm very into physical fitness so that's wear I get my fashion sense from.
Describe your style to us?
Two words describe my style perfectly, Sporty Look!
Describe your outfit when you go out?
I wear a lot of sweats, cargo pants and T shirts when I go out. I'm not the type that would wear a shirt with a bunch of logos or pants 2 sizes bigger than how it's supposed to fit. I also like my clothes to compliment my physique. As for what goes on my feet, you'll catch me wearing Nike Air Max 95s at all times!
What item of clothing would you like to see brought back?
The LL Cool J tracksuit!!! Haha...
Who is a person that has been an inspiration to you?
Wow, I couldn't just name one. Bruce Lee, Malcolm X, Jimi
Hendrix, Miles Davis and Public Enemy's Chuck D would round out my top 5 inspirational people.
Who is the ultimate Spader to you?
That's any easy one, my mentor Dr. Butcher.

PHARRELL x ROLLS ROYCE
Pharrell Williams is obviously looking through his garage of cars at the moment and thinking stock standard colours just don't cut it anymore. A few weeks ago we saw Pharrell's Porsche with Kaws artwork planted across it. Now the Rolls Royce gets the treatment for their "Hot n Fun" video. The artwork for this piece was done by Miami based design collective Friends With You. Can't wait to see the car's feature in the video!

ACCLAIM MAGAZINE JAPAN ISSUE
One magazine the Spader team always checks out is Aussie mag ACCLAIM. It's hands down the best lifestyle magazine that we have come across as they cover a wide range of artists, fashion, music, tattoo art, toys, stores, travel and so much more. The latest issue is dedicated to JAPAN, with one-on-one interviews with some of the biggest shakers and movers of the current creative culture scene, some of whom have never given Western interviews before. You should fine this at all good newsagents or log onto the Acclaim website. Enjoy!
