SPADER CRIBS

WATERFALL HOUSE - ARGENTINA

The waterfall house is the perfect holiday home if you happen to swing past Buenos Aires in Argentina on the regular. After a night out at a soccer game this is a great destination for the after party where you can sip on some red wine and eat a famous local steak by the waterfall. A Spaders paradise.

DOMINIC - RHYME & REASON TOP 5

Dominic Di Francesco (pictured above with Black Eyed Peas member apl.de.ap) is the Editor and founder of Australia's Rhyme & Reason magazine which consistently delivers interviews with the biggest acts from around the world. To stay in the loop with everything going on in the urban scene get onto the Rhyme & Reason website (link below). Here is Dom's top 5 moments in 09.

1. The Kanye West / Taylor Swift Incident:
Long story short; obnoxious rapper storms the stage and humiliates country/pop princess. Perhaps we could've forgiven Kanye were he contesting the oversight of Beyonce for the Most Awkward Dancer Award - but that wasn't the case. Even so, Kanye didn't deserve the cruel retribution dealt by Jay Leno the following evening, with Leno asking Kanye on live television; "What would your mother think?" Perhaps she would think that her son had been taking lessons from Leno on how to be an insensitive a**hole!

2. The Chris Brown / Rihanna Incident:
No other piece of news generated as much conversation in the music world as the Grammy weekend altercation between R&B's then golden couple - Chris Brown & Rihanna. Having spent time with both artists, it came as a shock to find them embroiled in such a nasty and unfortunate incident. But every cloud has a silver lining. Rihanna is now exploiting the altercation to sell her new album, and Chris is... well, Chris is being exploited by Rihanna to sell her new album. And rightly so.

3. Retail Release of Drake's 'So Far Gone' Mixtape:
September saw this Canadian sensation out-sell his peers with the retail release of his free [year-old] mixtape, So Far Gone. To provide some perspective, Drake is currently charting higher than both Whitney and Mariah, having released So Far Gone within two weeks of both divas' albums. Oh yeah, and Universal forked over a $2million advance for the kid! Making this story all the more spectacular is the fact that Drake played "Wheelchair Jimmy" in Canadian teen soap Degrassi High - which should have seen him promptly laughed-out of Hip-Hop altogether. Alas, he remains our next in line.

4. Rihanna / Cassie Nude Pics Leak:
2009 saw nude photos leak of both Rihanna and Cassie, each baring their chesticles [and much more] for the whole world to see. Like Rihanna's new album, the photos were definitely Rated R. But what bugged me out about this "scandal" is the fact that it wasn't a scandal at all. With zero public outrage, mainstream media seemed to breeze over both stories. I'm positive this would've been deemed controversial a decade ago, complete with media circus and backlash from family groups. After all, Rihanna and Cassie are role models. These non-scandals demonstrated just how our culture is changing.

5. Death Row Records Purchased by Canadian Company:
Canadian company WIDEawake Entertainment purchased Death Row Records out of bankruptcy in February for $18million. Death Row's former CEO was Suge Knight; the over-sized African American ex-footballer from LA with a criminal past [and present] whose idea of negotiating involved dangling rappers over hotel balconies. Death Row's new CEO is Lara Lavi; a stocky, Caucasian soccer-mom and folk singer from Canada whose idea of negotiating involves threatening to revoke television privileges. The Death Row saga continues...

THE ULTIMATE SPADER MACHINE

The latest edition to the custom cafe racer emporium DEUS is this sexy beast. Creating the best of both worlds, Deus have combined the Harley Davidson Nightster engine (1200cc) onto a signature Deus cafe racer frame. This would have to be the ultimate Spader moto.

All the bikes are custom made, just like this one. Meaning they're all one-offs. Very unique and if looks could kill... we'd all be dead.

Check out their other beautiful machines at deus.com.au

ANDREW MONTELL

If your interested in contemporary culture be it- streetwear, kicks, photography, art, design, graffiti, tattoos, toys, video games, film, cars, skateboarding, bmx and of course music. Then you should be down with Acclaim Magazine! Andrew Montell, the founder and editor of Acclaim took some time out from his busy schedule to share his top 5 moments in 09 with the Spader world.

ANDREW'S TOP 5 MOMENTS IN 2009

5. ACCLAIM issue 17: We were lucky enough to collaborate with Jeremyville for the cover of this issue. In my mind this issue marks a point where we really hit our groove, so to speak. The layout, content and especially the fusion of art and photography on the cover were all on point and helped to significantly lift the profile of ACCLAIM both locally and internationally.

4. Moving into the new ACCLAIM HQ: We were in workplace limbo for several months after moving out of our previous office. I worked from home for a while so it was great to move into such a dope office complete with balcony and BBQ!

3. A Decade In The Game: November 2009 marked 10 years of independent magazine publishing for me, from my first photocopied issue of Out4Fame to the current 18th issue of ACCLAIM.

2. Obama becoming president: While the biggest beneficiaries of this ‘change’ are citizens of the US, I think Obama’s world view will benefit all of us and hopefully bring an increase of peace.

1. The end of the Victorian Bushfires: My parents were surrounded by fire at one point and I lost contact with them. Seeing them alive and well a few days later was an emotional time that reminded me of what is really important in life.

AIR JORDAN TURNS 25

Last week was a special moment for Michael Jordan, Dwayne Wade and sneaker freaks with the Air Jordan shoe turning 25!! Can you believe the Jordan brand has been around for that long! Crazy isn't it! The reason for Dwayne Wade being photographed with MJ is another special moment for the Air Jordan brand, In the 25 years Jordan has been in the shoe game, no one besides him has ever been given the Air Jordan shoe to wear. Other athletes, such as Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul, have gotten other Jordan/Jumpman sneaks, but not the centerpiece of the brand. Not the Air Jordan. This has to be one of the highlights of Dwayne Wades career.

The Spader team is loving the 25th Air Jordan kicks. Some of the designs in the past have been hit or miss but the 25 is looking right on the money from this image above. We can't wait to try on a pair and get a close look at the shoe. How do you Spaders feel about the new Air Jordan???

THE WALKMAN

For all of those Spaders in there mid 20's and 30's you will have fond memories of the WALKMAN. This little bad boy was the hottest accessory to have in high school back in the 80's & 90's. At Spader we are predicting this to be a hot fashion item in the near future, what do you think? Can the cassette tape make a come back??

If you don't believe us then check the footage below. Spader would like to say a big congratulations to Kodak for making one of his dreams come true!

SPADER CRIBS

Sick of the office you work in? In need of inspiration when you have that deadline creeping up at work? Or just want to get in touch with nature? Then Spader has found the answer for you!
Bark Design Architects, a small Australian practice, have designed a studio for themselves that showcases their philosophy of design and provides a great space to work. The “workhouse”, an elevated steel, glass and plywood studio, “explores the notion of a mixed work / house typology.” The architects intended for the project to expresses lightness in its modular structural form, transparency, texture, and a seamless indoor to outdoor connection.

The architects carefully placed the building between two mature Brown Bloodwood eucalypt trees as a way to emphasize the relationship between the built and the natural. Perched atop four steel footings, the elevated building not only visually translates into a light “floating” project but also minimizes any disturbance to the natural ground line and the trees’ root systems.

The building can accommodate a design team of five to six people, a house for two people and a comfortable combination of both at times.
