P-MONEY'S TOP 5 MOMENTS IN NZ HIP HOP



When you think of New Zealand hip hop, P-Money is one of the first names that comes to mind. He is responsible for a substantial proportion of the success that has come out of the NZ scene through his DJing, production & record label.

It was only right that the Spader team asked P-Money what his Top 5 moments in New Zealand hip hop are. P-Money is currently touring Australia with David Dallas, PNC & Vince Harder and will be performing in the Nations Capital this Friday night @ Meche Nightclub.

TOP 5 MOMENTS IN NZ HIP HOP

1. 1989 - Upper Hutt Posse release the first Rap record in New Zealand. The single "E Tu".



2. 1994 - 3 The Hardway score NZ's first local number one single with the track "Hip-Hop Holiday".


3. 1996 - DLT and Chains hit with the highly acclaimed single "Chains". The track goes to number one for 6 weeks and launches Che-Fu as our first bonafide Hip-Hop star.



4. 2003 - Scribe drops his classic debut 'The Crusader'. The album sells 5x platinum in NZ and bares 2 number one singles. The double A-side release "Stand Up/Not Many" holds the number one spot for a record breaking 12 weeks. Scribe becomes the first kiwi rap act to cross the ditch and find success in Australia and make inroads internationally.



5. 2008 - South Auckland representative Savage becomes the first NZ Hip-Hop artist to break America. His single 'Swing', propelled by its inclusion in the blockbuster movie 'Knocked Up', sells in excess of 1.5 Million copies and Savage is signed to US major label Universal Republic.
